Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign

I think this story is brilliant and explains everything that my project is trying to achieve all in one.  As a little summary of the article, the Best Buddies Foundation has just joined the campaign "Spread the Word to End the Word" which is a one day event in which people who have mental and physical disabilities come together to fight against the use of the R-word in today's society.  They try to get people to sign a banner, which basically confirms that they will not use nor accept the use of the R-word in society anymore.  The reason why this news story is so important to my project is because it is bringing a community together of people with mental disabilities in pursuit of a good cause.  It is creating a community of potential friends and is putting the message out there that we are all equal individuals and we can all achieve the same thing, no matter our disabilities.  To go back again at what my project is aimed at, it's to create a community of people with disabilities and people that don't have any with the hope of creating friends by pursuing goals together such as learning new sports, charity work, and tackling social issues.  I went to the R-word website in which they have many postings of people explaining why they took the pledge.  One post I read was from a woman named Sacoiya, she wrote how she grew up protecting kids who had disabilities.  She wrote how they are people too just like us and how they have meaning on earth just as much as anyone else.  She called herself, their protector.  If this woman is not inspiring, I do not know what is.  This is a great community built around great goals, and I look forward to see where they take this from here.
